OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry is to show God's love by being an open-minded and inclusive community of faith for the students of Texas Tech University. We value sacramental worship, spiritual growth, and biblical faith, and we live these values together through intentional relationships in a supportive community. To find out more about Canterbury, read our comprehensive handbook.
TEXAS TECH STUDENT ORGANIZATION
Canterbury is an official student organization at Texas Tech. As a student organization, we regularly take part in the life of Texas Tech students both on and off campus. We also maintain a constitution and by-laws as a student organization. The constitution and by-laws can be viewed here.
THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Canterbury is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas. We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world. We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world. We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation. We believe that God loves you – no exceptions. To find out more about the Episcopal Church, click here.
OUR HISTORY
Located near the campus of Texas Tech, Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry serves students and young adults from colleges in the Lubbock area, particularly Texas Tech. Our ministry is simple: we join together for prayer and fellowship, we grow in faith and friendship, and we are committed to serving the surrounding community and world to share the love of Christ with others! Our student center, historically known as Seaman Hall, provides a safe and comfortable place for students to gather for worship and Bible studies, as well as for meals, relaxation, and study. Built in 1932, this historic building has served as an Episcopal Campus Ministry since the opening of its doors.
